PDMA Issues Cold Weather Alert Until January 16

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a cold weather alert, warning that severe cold conditions are expected to continue until January 16.

According to details that surfaced on Sunday, the PDMA circulated an official notification to several departments, including tourism, education, health, agriculture, local government, forestry, and other relevant bodies. The notification aims to ensure preparedness and coordination among departments in response to the anticipated weather conditions.

The authority stated that there is a likelihood of severe cold along with snowfall in multiple areas. These areas include Rawalpindi, Murree, the Galiyat, and the Potohar region. In addition to extremely low temperatures and snowfall, an increase in fog and smog conditions is also expected, which may affect visibility and routine activities in these regions.

Director General PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, highlighted the importance of precautionary measures, particularly in educational institutions. He said that schools and other educational institutions should issue clear instructions to students regarding the use of appropriate winter clothing. He further stated that suitable measures should be ensured within classrooms to protect students from cold weather conditions during school hours.

Emphasizing the health sector’s preparedness, the PDMA Director General said that all hospitals and health centers should ensure the availability of medicines. He also stressed that adequate medical staff should be present to handle any situation arising due to severe cold weather.

The PDMA alert serves as a reminder for all concerned departments to remain alert and take necessary steps within their respective responsibilities during the alert period. The authority continues to monitor the situation and has issued these instructions to minimize risks associated with extreme cold weather.
