A devastating fire broke out in the nursery unit of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital in Islamabad, resulting in the tragic deaths of 15 newborn infants, hospital officials confirmed.
Rescue authorities reported that the blaze has been successfully brought under control, and cooling operations are currently underway following the immediate response of emergency firefighting teams.
Cause of the Fire and Rescue Operations
According to rescue sources, the incident occurred after an air conditioner (AC) compressor exploded inside the nursery, causing flames to rapidly envelop the room.
Details of the Victims and Survival
Hospital sources disclosed that 16 infants were present inside the nursery at the time of the explosion. Out of the total newborns present, 15 tragically succumbed to the incident.
Medical staff sources added that an on-duty female doctor managed to rescue and safely evacuate only one child during the emergency.
