Allegations of Indo-Israel Backing for Anti-Pakistan Narrative Through Afghan Political Figures

ISLAMABAD: Concerns are emerging over alleged Indo-Israel collaboration to amplify anti-Pakistan narratives through Afghan political figures, with Ajmal Sohail, founder of the Afghan Liberal Party, reportedly at the centre of these campaigns.

Sohail, who is often presented by Indian media as an Afghan intelligence and security analyst, has previously commented on ISI, China, and ISKP, according to an interview with The Diplomat’s Indian editor Sudha Ramachandran. Analysts suggest that his portrayal as a security expert conceals the influence of external actors shaping regional information campaigns.

In a 2013 interview with the Israeli Institute for Regional Foreign Policies, Sohail reportedly described Israel as “not Afghanistan’s enemy” and advocated for discreet business and trade engagement between Israel and Afghanistan. He also dismissed the Israel-Palestine conflict as largely irrelevant to Afghan interests, claiming some Afghans consider Israel a potential ally.

Observers argue that such narratives are being selectively amplified by Indian media to attack Pakistan under the guise of expert commentary, highlighting a broader strategy of information manipulation in the region.

The development raises questions about the role of foreign-backed actors in shaping public discourse and regional security perceptions, underscoring the need for careful analysis of claims presented by politically affiliated commentators.
