Recent controversy surrounding religious scholar Hafiz Dildar has raised serious concerns regarding misinformation and sectarian polarization on social media.
According to supporters and available speech recordings, Hafiz Dildar did not target the entire Shia community in his public address. Instead, he strongly condemned individuals responsible for allegedly posting abusive content against respected Sunni religious figures online. He repeatedly emphasized that no sect or community should be blamed collectively for the actions of a few individuals.
Witnesses also claim that during the gathering he discouraged slogans directed against the Shia community and called only for legal accountability of those spreading hate content. Despite these clarifications, certain groups allegedly portrayed his speech as anti-Shia, leading to legal complaints and growing online hostility against him.
Supporters of Hafiz Dildar have alleged that several social media handles, including “محبان رہبر گلگت بلتستان”, are continuously spreading misinformation, selective clips, and inflammatory narratives against him despite his repeated clarification that he never targeted the entire Shia community.
According to statements and available recordings, Hafiz Dildar emphasized respect for all sects and only demanded legal action against individuals accused of spreading hate content against respected Sunni religious figures on social media platforms. He also reportedly stopped participants from raising slogans against the Shia community during public gatherings.
Observers and civil society voices are now calling for a transparent digital forensic investigation into the coordinated online campaign. Experts suggest that relevant Cyber Crime and Cyber Security authorities, including departments dealing with social media monitoring and digital misinformation, should investigate the origin of edited clips, fake narratives, and hate campaigns circulating online.
Religious harmony can only be preserved through justice, responsible speech, and impartial investigation based on complete evidence rather than manipulated social media propaganda.
Hafiz Dildar’s supporters now demanding a fair, transparent, and unbiased investigation rather than selective clips or social media narratives. Religious harmony can only be protected when justice is applied responsibly and when innocent individuals are not falsely accused due to sectarian tensions.
Both Sunni and Shia communities have long histories of coexistence, and many voices from both sides continue to reject extremism, hate speech, and sectarian violence in all forms.
