Today I wasn’t feeling too well so I thought if the body can’t work, perhaps the pen still can. After all, a person has a heart too, and the heart often insists that one must keep doing something. My work mostly keeps me trapped between a laptop and a computer screen less time to stand up, more obsession with sitting down. So, when illness strikes, I either work on my projects or write something
Writing, after all, is an old disease of mine one that, thankfully, has never been cured, and hopefully never will be.
A few days ago, I spoke to an elderly friend a wise man, and a father himself. He said, “Nowadays, giving kids a phone has become a necessity. After all, it’s the era of e-learning. I thought to myself he’s right. Education has stepped out of school walls and entered the screens of our phones. Children can now learn skills from YouTube, Coursera, Udemy, or DigiSkills. The world of knowledge is now just a fingertip away. But where there’s convenience, there’s also temptation. The internet is like a lamp it gives light, but it can also burn.
If parents decide to give their children mobile phones, it becomes equally important to supervise their usage. But the real question is how can they monitor it? This is where Google has done something truly remarkable. It has created a tool that is nothing less than a blessing for parents: Google Family Link.
This tool allows parents to monitor their children’s phone activity, set screen time limits, and even see which apps their kids are using most.
The process is simple: download the Google Family Link app from the Play Store, create a child account (or use your child’s existing email) and link it to your own Google account. After a few verification steps, your child’s phone will be under your supervision. You can then decide how long they can use their device or when the screen should stay locked.
For instance, if you set bedtime from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the phone will automatically lock at 9 no matter what tricks the child tries, it won’t unlock.
This feature even helps during school hours parents can ensure that their child cannot use the phone during classes. In other words, the phone remains in the child’s hand, but the reins stay in the parents’ control. The result? Less late-night scrolling, early mornings become easier, and parents can finally enjoy some peace of mind.
I always try to write about tools that genuinely help people. And while writing this, I realized if my words can benefit even one person that’s the greatest success I can hope for.
Today I wasn’t feeling well, but the heart whispered, “Write something good.” So here it is this piece, written in sickness but with a healthy heart.
To all my readers: if you’ve used Google Family Link share your experiences. And if you haven t yet install it and see for yourself. It’s a small app with big benefits. Because guiding children isn’t just a responsibility it’s an act of love.
And before I end, just one humble request pray for me. This article was written while I was unwell, but thankfully, the heart was still full of life.
