The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released a weather advisory warning of heavy snowfall across Pakistan’s northern regions from today until January 22, while rainfall is forecast in several parts of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan between January 20 and January 23.

According to the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC), a fresh western weather system is expected to affect the country, bringing rain and snowfall to various areas. Under the influence of this system, moderate to heavy snowfall is likely in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The advisory states that areas expected to receive snowfall include Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Astore, Chitral, Dir, Malam Jabba, Swat, Battagram, Naran, Kaghan, Galiyat, and Murree. Authorities have cautioned that weather conditions in these regions may worsen during the forecast period due to persistent snowfall.

The NDMA has warned that heavy snowfall could result in slippery road conditions, temporary road blockages, and reduced visibility, particularly in hilly and mountainous areas. There is also a potential risk of avalanches and landslides in vulnerable regions, which could pose challenges for both residents and travelers.

In addition to snowfall in the north, rainfall is expected in various districts of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan from January 20 to January 23. The NDMA has noted that this rainfall may lead to disruptions in electricity supply in certain areas, depending on local conditions.

Keeping the forecast in view, the NDMA has advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather, especially in snow-prone and mountainous regions. Citizens have been urged to stay updated on weather advisories and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
