DigiMAP condemns murder of Pakistani journalist

DigiMAP condemns murder of Pakistani journalist

The Digital Media Alliance of Pakistan (DigiMAP) expresses deep sorrow and grief over the tragic killing of young journalist Janan Hussain in an attack in Kurram. Hussain, the General Secretary of the Parachinar Press Club, was returning from Malaysia to his hometown of Parachinar when his convoy, consisting of around 200 vehicles, was ambushed while traveling from Parachinar to Peshawar.

DigiMAP President Sabookh Syed strongly condemned the tragic incident and expressed his condolences to the family of Janan Hussain. He voiced his strong disapproval, stating that in Pakistan, human lives hold no value, and journalists have become common targets of various forms of violence.

Syed emphasized that in an environment where criticism is stifled, authoritarian and anti-human approaches may take root, leading to damaging consequences for journalists from every perspective. He further expressed concern that journalists are not only being murdered but are also being denied justice, which exacerbates the dangers they face in performing their duties.

DigiMAP’s Information Secretary, Adnan Amir, said that the tragic killing of journalist Janan Hussain in an attack in Kurram is deeply condemnable and a grim reminder of the dangers faced by media professionals in Pakistan’s volatile tribal regions. The government must urgently take concrete measures to ensure the safety and protection of journalists working in these high-risk areas.

Their right to travel freely and without fear is essential to a democratic and informed society.

The journalist community has paid glowing tributes to Hussain for his dedication to journalism and his service to the press.
