Gilgit-Baltistan, a breathtakingly beautiful region in Northern Pakistan, is home to some of the world’s highest mountains, including K2, Nanga Parbat, and Rakaposhi. Our region is known for its stunning natural landscapes, diverse cultures, and rich history. We celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14, but more significantly, we commemorate our own independence day on November 1, marking the day we gained freedom from the Dogra Raj government in 1947 and subsequently joined Pakistan.
Despite being an integral part of Pakistan, Gilgit-Baltistan faces numerous challenges. We lack adequate representation in the National Assembly and Senate, which hinders our ability to voice our concerns and needs in the government. Our infrastructure, including roads, electricity, and water supply, requires significant improvement. Internet access is slow and unreliable, affecting students, businesses, and communication. The region’s economic potential remains untapped due to limited opportunities and resources.
In recent years, some development projects have been initiated, which has led to improvements in our roads and attracted tourists to our region. Tourism has showcased the world’s breathtaking beauty of Gilgit-Baltistan, with its majestic mountains, serene lakes, and picturesque valleys. The region’s unique cultural heritage, including its diverse languages, traditions, and festivals, is also gaining recognition.
However, we still need more development and equal rights. We aspire for better education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. We want to be part of Pakistan’s progress and prosperity, contributing our skills, talents, and resources to the country’s growth. We desire a brighter future for ourselves and future generations, where we can live with dignity, security, and opportunities.
Let’s work together towards a more inclusive and equitable Pakistan, where all regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan, can thrive and reach their full potential.
Happy Independence Day to Pakistan!
