ISLAMABAD:A rock climbing championship has officially kicked off in Islamabad, bringing together young athletes from across Pakistan in a show of strength, endurance, and determination.
The event has been launched by the Alpine Club of Pakistan, in collaboration with the Interprovincial Coordination Division, marking an important step toward the promotion of adventure sports in the country.
Participants from all provinces, along with representatives from Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, have taken part in the championship, reflecting strong nationwide engagement. The competition has attracted a large number of enthusiastic climbers, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere at the venue.
A notable aspect of the championship is the impressive participation of both boys and girls, who are showcasing remarkable skill, focus, and physical endurance. Their performances underline the growing interest in rock climbing among Pakistan’s youth and highlight the potential of young athletes in this demanding sport.
The primary objective of the championship is to promote rock climbing and mountaineering while encouraging youngsters to take on physical and mental challenges. Organizers believe such events help instill resilience, confidence, and discipline among young participants, while also opening doors for future development in adventure sports.
Speaking on the occasion, Maj General (Retd) Irfan, Chairman of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, expressed strong optimism about the initiative.
“We will create more opportunities for our talented youth,” he said, while sharing his enthusiasm for the championship and its broader goals.
The collaboration behind the event was also appreciated by officials from the Interprovincial Coordination Division. Mohyuddin Wani, Secretary IPC Division, praised the joint effort, stating:
“Kudos to General Irfan and the Alpine Club of Pakistan for collaborating with IBC Division to make this happen.”
The championship stands as a clear reflection of Pakistan’s untapped potential in adventure sports. By providing a competitive platform for young climbers from diverse regions, the event also serves as a meaningful step toward youth empowerment and national sporting development.
