An unprecedented number of children, youth and adults are not attending schools or universities because of COVID-19. Governments in 100 countries have announced or implemented the closure of educational institutions in an attempt to slow the spread of the disease. UNESCO is providing immediate support to countries as they work to minimize the educational disruption and facilitate the continuity of learning, especially for the most vulnerable.
According to UNESCO monitoring, 85 countries have closed schools nationwide, impacting over 776.7 million children and youth. A further 15 countries have implemented localized school closures and, should these closures become nationwide, hundreds of millions of additional learners will experience education disruption.Education in emergencies and conflict area is the process of teaching and promoting quality education for children, youth, and adults in crisis-affected areas. Such emergency settings include: conflicts, pandemics and disaster caused by natural hazards. Strengthened education systems protects children and youth from attack, abuse, and exploitation, supports peace-building, and provides physical and psychological safety to children. In times of crisis, education helps build resilience and social cohesion across communities, and is fundamental to sustained recovery.
So right now as we see the natural disaster which spread almost across the world made every one paralysed and the movement of students to their schools, college and universities have been restricted. In many countries the government announced the online education for the students which is a good step for maintaining the rhythm of education so that the students can remain in touch with books also during the time of crises .In india almost every educational institution have been also closed and government here also announced for online education and spread the news that students and teachers should remain in touch so that students could not face any kind of problem.
I appreciate this step taken by government because this will help all the students to continue their study without any hindrance and their time will be utilised in a good way.But here i want to ask the same question to this well-wisher government that where was your online educational policy when there was the closure of schools in kashmir valley almost from 7 months. When the movement of 1.5 million students towards their schools was paralysed. When students were not able to even contact with their relatives because of communication blackout. What about the future of those students who have dreamt about to be the great philosophers and leaders in the upcoming future? What about the future of those students who were the toppers and the cream of society?
They were totally out of contact with their books, their almost half session goes ruined because of you. They were mentally tortured and were not able to even remember their homework and exams.but finally you conduct the exams just because to show there is normalcy and students are enjoying under this oppression. I want to ask you is still democracy prevail? You told they are integral part of our country but you put their future in the darkness! How can you now expect that they will chant your slogans. You give the special leave to your teachers in this critical condition but what about those teachers who were the only bread earner of their families and were working in private institutions but what happened they were closed for 7 months.what about those students who were preparing for competative exams and were using internet for their help but the online tutorials were also under the ban just because of communication blackout.?
These are the steps which force them to think that Are we still the integral part or it is to ruin our talent and just go make our future generation marginalized. Are they not students who are studying in kashmir? The students were just wandering from here and there in the 7 months of lockdown. So to be the well-wisher the government and the international community should pay attention towards this and should think about the future of kashmiri students whose future is at the line of darkness. So i would like to say for the peace and prosperity of nation the government should think about this all and the education in every sphere of world should be appreciated also during the times of crisis and the students should be benefited by all means which can help them to continue their study. The government should make the best availability of internet in kashmir so that to get information about the COVID_19 and by the same time can continue their study.
