Game of Thrones is a famous British TV serial for depicting very entertaining power struggle, but more relevant to Pakistan is “Mera Sultan”, a Turkish serial. The great Ottoman emperor Suleman, who has been eulogized in sub-continent for being the last Caliph of Muslims was played around by his wives and a eunuch. But how it relates to the situation of Pakistan? Here it comes.
The current power game in Pakistan began when Gen. (R) Raheel Sharif’s retirement was near and Ex-PM Nawaz Sharif seemed to be out of woods after infamous Dharna. He was thinking about who would be reasonable to replace General Raheel Sharif, and his choice was not known to many. And what he was thinking was greatly influenced by none other than DG IB Aftab Sultan, Senator Mushahid Ullah, and Irfan Siddique, who was a teacher of many Generals. Certain meetings which took place in power circles at that very situation where Dharna was opposed by certain individuals, this was also taken into consideration. Then came the Dawn Leakes and demand for an extension for Sharif, by Sharif, which was rejected by Raheel Sharif lately.
But when there was no more time left to decide who to choose for the next COAS, a video came and prevailed on the surface about one of the General being considered for next COAS is a Qadiani, hence a Non-Muslim. Nawaz Sharif was asked to be very vigilant while deciding the Commander of the biggest and most powerful Muslim Army. Guess what, General Bajwa was chosen, and he has been declared as Kafir Qadiani by Afzal Qadri of Tehreek e Labaik Pakistan. Then the ISI chief, General Rizwan was forced to resign for ” UNKNOWN” reasons after General Bajwa was able to reject the PM’s notification on Dawn Leaks through an infamous tweet by DG ISPR.
Now, the issue of another extension in Pakistan seems to downplay the existential issue of Kashmir. I remember, Maryam Nawaz was the one who mowed down Raheel’s extension at that time, now rejecting Bajwa’s as well. She is the only voice could gather the crowd when not arrested.
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Imran Khan were able to gather large crowds due to their personal Charisma, but without the cushion of establishment, they could not generate any protest. History is a witness. The question is, will Maryam Nawaz be able to bring that popularity and then will it bring any change? If she had announced Pakhtoons would have been with her for sure, as I see, no change could come without the contribution of Pashtoons and other ethnicities, Bhutto tried but failed. Mariyum Nawaz will also realize but it depends upon when and how.
The idea that Punjab didn’t believe that the PML-N has more substance is mostly untrue. If Elections hadn’t happened, the little would have changed believe me. There could never be a situation of the surrender of civilian elected representatives. It is a dire effort to make us believe in the things which have a lack of evidence, the current intelligentsia is determined to do so.
The game continues and final will be played in November, any of the player if accepts the loss, will be the ultimate loser in near future. For me, Mariyum has nothing to lose but to gain. She has already won. The people who are at the opposition of Mariyum Nawaz are nervous and hysterical but this time those opponents are not from Rawalpindi, they belong to Lahore.
