The first IPPA (International Pakistan Prestige Awards) took place in Hilton Park Lane, London recently with a fanfare and showbiz personalities from Pakistan.
Celebrating Pakistan’s 70th Independence Day, this was the first IPPA acknowledging Pakistan’s film, music, TV and fashion industries. London’s elites from the expatriate community as well as the corporate sector showed up in large numbers to demonstrate their support for Pakistani talent, while members of the showbiz industry of Pakistan flew into London in large numbers to make the event successful.
The Red Carpet was flared up with the who’s who of the entertainment industry, socialites and corporate giants coming together. 35 celebrities were flown from Karachi to London. Humayun Saeed, Ahsan Khan, Ayesha Khan, Mekaal Zulfiqar, Ayesha Omer, Mawra Hocane, Urwa Hocane, Farhan Saeed, Sana Fakhar, Behroze Sabzwari, Wajahat Rauf, Noor Bukhari, Fiza Ali, Bilal Ashraf, Gohar Rasheed, Javed Sheikh, Saife Hasan, Nabeel Qureshi, Fizza Ali Meerza, Humaima Malick, Moomal Sheikh and Ayesha Sana were just some of the names that graced the Red Carpet.
The show consisted of segments like fashion presentation by Saira Rizwan and Amty of Tehzeeb from London, comedy skit segments by Yasir Hussain and Adnan Siddiqui, and humorous banter by the Rangreza heartthrobs Gohar Rasheed and Bilal Ashraf.
Hosts of the nights were actor/comedian Mani Liaquat and the celebrated Ayesha Sana, Farhan Saeed and Urwa Hocaine, Yasir Hussain with glamorous Ayesha Omer, Meekal Zulfiqar and Ainy Jaffri Rehman and Fiza Ali.
The programme also included performance by Waves Naam Hi Kaafi Hai by Mawra Hocane, uber-talented Noor Bukhari on a medley, a solo number by Farhan Saeed with international troupe dancing in accompaniment.
The IPPA 2016 went for: Best Style Icon (male) to Hamza Ali Abbasi and Best Style Icon (female) to Ayesha Omer; Best Model to Neha Ahmed; Best Designer Couture to Faraz Manan; Best Designer Lawn to Asim Jofa; Outstanding Achievement by a Pakistani Actor on a Global Platform (female) to Humaima Malik and Outstanding Achievement by a Pakistani Actor on a Global Platform (male) to Adnan Siddiqui; IPPA Star of the year (male) to Humayun Saeed and IPPA Star of the year (female) to Mawra Hocaine; Best Emerging Talent to Momina Mustehsan; Best Singer to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan; Best Morning Show Host to Sanam Jung; Best Supporting Actor TV serial to Gohar Rasheed for Man Mayal; Best Actor TV Serial (male) to Ahsan Khan for Udaari and Best Actor TV Serial (female) to Ayesha Khan for Noor e Zindagi; Best Jodi of the year TV Serial to Farhan and Urwa for Udaari; Best Director Drama Serial to Ehteshamuddin for Udaari; Best TV Serial to Momina Duraid for Udaari; Best Supporting Actor Film to Mr Om Puri for Actor in Law; Best Actress Film to Mehwish Hayat for Actor In Law and Best Actor Film to Fahad Mustafa for the same; Best Jodi of the year Film to Bilal Ashraf and Armeena Khan for Janan; Best Director Film to Nabeel Qureshi for Actor in Law; Best Film to Fizza Ali Meerza for Actor in Law. Lifetime Legend Award was given to Jawaid Sheikh. The Best Cinema of 2016 award went to Neuplex Cinema.
Total 30 awards were given out from which 22 were people’s choice awards for the fields of music, fashion, film and television on performances in the year 2016. The remaining eight were special awards from which four honoured British Pakistanis for their remarkable achievements and four honoured outstanding Pakistanis.
