Sahabzada Yaqub Ali Khan (December 1920 – 26 January 2016)
He was a legend and perhaps the most well dressed man in Pakistan after Jinnah. Prince, soldier, diplomat-
He was commander of the Pakistan Army in 1970-71 in the then East Pakistan as a Lt. General. He refused orders of the then Commander-in-Chief Gen Yahya to carry out the massacre of the Bengalis.
He was recalled, then dismissed from the army and deprived of all army titles. Gen Tikka Khan replaced him in the East Pakistan to carry out the massacre.
Sahibzada Yaqub Ali Khan was proficient in several languages, including Russian; he also served as Pak Ambassador to Moscow and also to Washington DC.
He also served his country as foreign minister in Gen Ziaul Haq as well as Benazir Bhutto’s governments.
He lived a picture perfect life and passed away last night at the age of 95. Rest in peace!
