On Monday important announcement has made regarding Pakistan’s school education department that all educational institutions, including schools, colleges and tuition centers, will close down from November 26, 2020 up to January 11, 2020.
After reviewing the current situation of Covid-19 outbreak the Federal Minister of country’s make a final decision on extended winter vacations for school students. Government decided that from Thursday students will continue their education at home. Government explained the various decisions taken during meeting with all the country education ministers.
Salient features of Press Conference:
· Homework will be given out online
· Home learning
· December examination have been postponed will commence those exams from January 15
· Professional exams would continue as per schedule
· Higher Education will commence online learning
· vocational learning and for training senior medical professionals would remain open
· board exams that were scheduled for March or April, be pushed forward till May and June
As a researcher and critique when I review the minutes of press conference it makes me sad, are we advancing in the community with inclusive approach or mindset?. Our thinking should first to be inclusive to make things and environment inclusive. Without inclusive mindsets and planning things would not be inclusive.
When we speak “our students” than it actually means the entire population of students either they are from primary, secondary and university level students without any discrimination, either from general education or special needs education. Either they are from low-socio economical background or from dysfunctional families. Would be every child be able to take online classes?
Press conference absolutely missed to state the preparation and strategies for their learning process, about the special needs institutions publically running. This hand we are healthy to implement uniform curriculum for inclusive population to wipe out inequity among children and on the other hand we are even not addressing our special needs students they also need planning and learning strategies to overcome this second phase of educational crisis mentally, socially and economically. They need accessible education because their needs are human.
According to our Prime minister vision is to transform Pakistan‘s uneven educational system into one that is inclusive and provides youth from all segments of society the opportunity to develop the necessary skill sets to gain employment and constructively engage with society. The failure of existing education system to provide this necessary rounded education to large segments of youth, therefore effectively excluding them from mainstream economic and social activity, remains one of the most critical challenges the country faces.
25 Lakhs children in Madrassahs are studying but when we progress our press conference for closure of educational institutions they are missing, no planning and homework have designed for them during this meeting. This is the only discipline of education which would not progress with MCQs, selective type of learning. On the contrary; we cannot promote huffaaz with Short Syllabus of Holy Quran. They need quality time to memorize and complete their paras and manzils. Government should take some steps to accommodate these madrassas students and should design some strategies to make their education accessible without wastage of time.
Closure of educational institutions will not help in controlling the Covid-19 infections,” the minister said in a statement and recommend the authorities to impose a ban on the entry of children in shopping malls too in order to stem the spread of corona virus. Punjab education minister seeks ban on entry of children in shopping malls and I prefer it would be execute properly because children are our first priority to be cared and look after without zero tolerance.
It had also suggested preparations and implementations for an online education platform which included locally made systems like tele-school and tele-radio.
In recent weeks, the country’s Covid-19 cases deaths have seen a sharp increase. On Monday, the National Command and Operation Centre were informed that hospitalizations due to Covid-19 have doubled in the last two weeks while the positivity ratio increased to 7.46 percent in the last 24 hours. There has also been an increase in the number of infections reported at educational institutions across the country.
The most conspicuous and alarming mania accordingly educational experts are an outlook of students after this statement has been seen existing on the social media. By and large Students become energized after this educational institutions closure news has been released. It wealth our educational system require significant and affective reforms. After a long closure period of educational institutions when school had reopened students were not happy to connect their institutes because they were also familiar by the situation they were going to face by school administration.
Schools started their exams and assessment workout. Affective planning, training, resources and interventions were needed to controlled children mental, social and learning health. What is our education system; our education system is all about to sit for six hours on a daily basis with straight back in same position within a four wall room not even allow to shift and adding some creativity neither in oral answers nor in the printed work, you just necessitate to copy paste all the fabric in notebooks than on the exam sheets.
Your grades would charge your academic skills and mental abilities. Instead of lucidity of concepts we are evaluating student intelligence level. We have tainted our course from quality to quantity learning. Accessible education is must to meet the needs, interests, skills and learning capacity of every student. Accessible Education is a pleasure box fills up with different courses and teaching style accordingly to the needs of students from a variety of backgrounds, status, abilities and learning styles. Accessible educational system will attract students instead of repel.
