Early in the morning of Sunday, NJV School, a heritage site of Karachi, came alive with activity as enthusiastic Karachiites came together to participate in Art Ki Talaash, a scavenger hunt, which is a project of Karachi Biennale Trust, the organisers of the First Karachi Biennale.
The Hunt was especially designed to connect participants with the history of Karachi. Art ki Talaash sent a large number of teams across Karachi in search of answers to art-related clues given to them. The teams went all through the city to sites that were as far-flung as the airport and the harbour, and from Gulshan-e-Iqbal to Clifton. Not only did Art Ki Talaash test how well the teams knew Karachi but also gave them a fun day with friends and family while exploring this wonderful city.
As the day settles down, teams started coming back to NJV with their final answers as quickly as possible as to get the maximum chance to win the prizes. As the results were being compiled, the participants were treated to an unplugged performance by Kristin Kanaria of Nescafe Basement fame. Music, good company and amazing edibles by the tea partners TCJ and Pie in the Sky set the mood for the evening after a long day of hunting for answers.
In her remarks, Niilofur Farrukh, managing trustee of Karachi Biennale Trust, highlighted Karachi Biennale’ s objectives, while Mr Nazir Tunio, director Akuwat Sindh spoke on the restoration project of NJV School. Mr Anwar Rammal, an alumnus of NJV from the 1940s also shared his memories of his alma mater.
The chief guest for the evening was actor/singer Tipu Sharif who greatly appreciated Art Ki Talaash and gave out the top ten prizes to the teams with the most correct answers within the deadline. The first prize was a return ticket to Dubai via Oman Air, second prize was Rs 25000/- donated by Agha’s Supermarket, and the third best team received a ladies leather bag from HUB plus 2 gift vouchers from FHS. The other prizes included Dinner for two at Chai Shai, a bag by HUB, five discount vouchers by Espresso, four free mani/pedi vouchers by Peng Salon, four vouchers by Angie’s Salon, and five vouchers by Pivot Point Pakistan.
