In light of her selfless services to differently-abled persons, Chairperson, Special Olympics Pakistan Ronak Lakhani’s, has been honored with Sitara-e-Imtiaz by government of Pakistan. This is the third highest award given to any civilian in the country based on one’s extraordinary achievement.
Special Olympics Pakistan is a subsidiary of special Olympic International Washington. Ronak Lakhani has been the force behind SOP in transforming the lives of people with Intellectual Disabilities bringing them into the mainstream society through Inclusion and ‘Power of Sports’.
Ms Lakhani shares “I have been volunteering with SOP since 1990. I am really honored for being awarded with this Sitara-e-Imtiaz and I am committed to continue my services to take this movement to the next level. This recognition was only possible with the efforts of my passionate team members”.
Special Olympics Pakistan organizes sports activities, and competitions for differently-abled persons in all four provinces throughout the year for all ages of 8 years and above.
SOP offers training and competitions from Olympics-type sports such as Athletics to the team sports of Cricket. SOP also offers health screenings and conducts Unified Sports. SOP has participated in over 18 International Games.
Some of organization’s key program include: Unified Sports, Athlete Leadership Programs, Family Engagement, Healthy Athletes and Young Athletes.
Special Olympics works beyond boundaries, without any regard to gender, race, religion, economic or education level, thus has the ability to unite all walks of life.
