ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly was informed today that 66 discoveries of gas and six of oil have been made in the country during the tenure of the present government.
Parliamentary Secretary for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahzadi Umarzadi Tiwana told the House during question hour that 600 mmcfd gas and 2700 barrel of oil per day have been added in the system, during the period.
She said the indigenous production of oil has touched one hundred thousand barrel per day, which is highest in the history of the country.
She pointed out that the government has awarded 46 exploration licenses to different companies. At present 24 companies are holding exploration licenses for gas exploration in the country and are working on 164 blocks.
To a question, she said recently the joint sitting of the Parliament has passed Gas Theft Control and Recovery Bill which will greatly help theft recovery.
She said OGRA is taking action on adulteration cases in petroleum products and imposing fines according to the gravity of violations. She also urged the public to file complaints, if they see any adulteration taking place at any petrol pumps. She said action will be taken on the complaints.
Shahzadi Umarzadi told the House that the country imported petroleum products of worth 9.334 billion dollars during 2015.
The National Assembly today adopted a unanimous resolution calling upon the government to take immediate steps to conduct Population Census in the country. It was moved by Dr Nafisa Shah.
Speaking on the resolution, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad said that the government has full intention to hold population and housing census as soon as possible.
The House passed yet another resolution calling upon the government to take steps to establish separate counters for women in all Passport and NADRA offices. It was moved by Naeema Kishwar Khan.
Parliamentary Secretary for Interior Maryam Aurangzeb informed the House that the government is already working on the issue. She said separate counters of women in all the 561 NADRA centres will be set up in the first phase and separate women NADRA centres will be established in the second phase.
The House rejected a resolution urging the government to take steps to fix minimum interest free house building advance amount at two million rupees for the government employees. It was moved by Sajida Begum.
Parliamentary Secretary for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan told the House that the loans are being given to the government employees within the available resources and keeping in view the repayment capacity of the employees.
The National Assembly today passed a unanimous resolution strongly condemning the terrorist attack in Brussels on Tuesday which took 34 lives and more than 200 others injured.
The resolution was moved by Shazia Marri said that the world must stand united to combat this menace and reaffirm its unwavering resolve to stop, by all means, every forms of terrorism worldwide.
Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan told the House that PASCO will procure one million tons of wheat this year from across the country.
Responding to points raised by Leader of the Opposition Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah, he said last year PASCO procured 80 thousand tons of wheat from Sindh which was a record.
He said efforts will be made to procure maximum wheat from the Sindh this year.
Winding up the discussion on NAB performance, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid said that there is a need to make the accountability system fair, transparent and prestigious.
He said the NAB Chairman has also admitted that there is need to improve the accountability system.
The Minister said the government will welcome the proposals of the Parliament to improve this system.
Later, the House held discussion on the performance of the National Accountability Bureau.
