A film by the creator of super hit Indian movies, Karan Johar, starring Pakistani super star Fawad Khan is now in cinemas!
Kapoor & Sons is a family drama, in which there is no hero or heroine, but every character has its own importance and has their own story.
The story of the film revolves around a family of Amerjeet Kapoor (Rishi Kapoor). His son Harsh Kapoor (Rajat Kapoor) and daughter in law Sunita Kapoor (Ratna Pathak) due to financial and other issues disagree with each other most of the time which often takes the form of quarrel. Their sons Rahul Kapoor (Fawad Khan) and Arjun Kapoor (Siddharth Malhotra) live with them and both are writer.
The elder son Rahul has a successful career as a writer and has many blockbuster books on his credit, while Arjun despite all the hard work and good ideas, always fails to get the position as his brother’s.
Arjun loves an orphan but a rich girl, Tia (Alia Bhatt) who is also his best friend and guides him in many ways to tackle with his problems.
As a failed writer, Arjun has the feeling that he is incompetent and his parents always prefer Rahul on him and favour him in most of the situations. This is often is a reason of strife between both. And at one point Arjun becomes even suspicious that his girlfriend Tia loves Rahul more than him. After this, the enormity of hostility widens between two brothers.
Although, everyone in the house loves each other and want to keep each other happy too but misunderstanding, fear and suspicion are constantly damaging their relationship.
Amerjeet Kapoor, head of the House, is the only man, who loves equally to everyone and wants to keep all of the family unite. Also the circumstances take a shape in a way that all the secrets reveal themselves and misunderstanding starts to get away.
As far as the acting is concerned, Fawad Khan, unlike his last film, is not in a role of romantic hero, but all his expressions and gesture in this role too proved that he is a versatile actor and soon will be able to get a promising place in India-Pakistan film industry. Siddharth Malhotra also has done his role of a carefree boy appropriately while Alia Bhatt demonstrates that her acting abilities are getting honed with time. Rishi Kapoor in the get up and make up of a 90-year-old man has done the most difficult job of his career.
The film’s story is strong, script is involving and dialogues are meaningful.
The duration of the film is more than two hours, but texture of the story is woven in such a way that after every scene, you wait for the next scene to see how the things are unfolding them. At one point, the story turns in a situation where every member of the house is annoyed with the other but the reason of anger is different with each case.
Under the banner of Fox star Studios the film is produced at Karan Johar’s Dharma Production. The director of the film is Shakun Batra, who has directed Karan Johar’s another movie ‘Aik Main aur Aik Tu.’
For quite a long time, Karan Johar is trying to give a serious message through his movies in which ‘Student of the Year’ and ‘Two States’ are worth mentionable.
This film, instead of his tread mark big houses and huge dance floors, is a story of a middle class family with their bounding and problems, which indeed is an attempt to document a rich message in a lighter way.
If this trend continues it is expected that Karan Johar’s next venture is an art film.
It’s too early to say that what will this film collect at the box office, but after a long time Kapoor & Sons is a Bollywood movie which has proved to be better than the claims before its release.
