Former Governor of Punjab and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Salmaan Taseer’s son has been recovered from Kuchlak, 15 km away from Quetta, Waqt News reported. Shahbaz Taseer was abducted from Lahore in 2011.
The security and intelligence agencies conducted the rescue operation and recovered him. According to reports security forces have shifted him to a safe area.
Since his recovery Shahbaz has got in touch with his family. According to sources, his aunt will file a case for abduction.
The news comes a week after Salmaan Taseer’s murderer Mumtaz Qadri was hanged till death in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.
ISPR confirmed the news of Shahbaz’s recovery and said that security agencies have played a very important role in the operation. ISPR added that more details would be released soon.
Shahbaz was abducted from Lahore’s area of Gulberg on August 26, 2011, eight months after Salmaan Taseer’s killing. Salmaan Taseer had been killed by Qadri for his criticism of the blasphemy law.
The news of his abduction got to his family after a company driver saw his car abandoned near Firdous Market, Lahore.
There were speculations that he was taken to Afghanistan. Rumors of his death were also circulated many times.
